Miscellaneous News

Fellow 60's:

A few miscellaneous items:

1. Hanover Welcomes President-Elect Philip Hanlon ’77: President-Elect Hanlon addressed the Dartmouth community in Spaulding Auditorium on Friday, January 11th. His address was followed by a reception in Alumni Hall. You can access his address online at http://www.youtube.com/Dartmouth. There is also an article in Dartmouth Now at http://now.dartmouth.edu/2013/01/dartmouth-gives-president-elect-hanlon-77-a-warm-welcome-home/. President-Elect Hanlon and his wife Gail Gentes attended the Dartmouth vs. Harvard Men’s Hockey game and brought us good luck as we beat Harvard 3-2.

2. Trustee Election Update: The petition deadline for alumni to file to run for the alumni-nominated trustee vacancy was January 7th, and no alumni filed to run by petition. The Association of Alumni constitution requires that an election be held, even when uncontested, so Mitch Kurz ’73 (nominated at the 205th Alumni Council meeting) will run uncontested in the 2013 election. Balloting will run from February 12, 2013 through March 12, 2013.

3. Photos of 2013 Winter Carnival Sculptures: Now in its 102nd year, the 2013 Winter Carnival will be held February 7–13. As always, there will be a giant snow sculpture on the Green, and planned activities include the Occom Pond Party, the human dogsled race, and the polar bear swim. If you can't make it to Carnival, you can join us in spirit. Using this year’s Carnival theme—A Very Grimm Carnival—you may create your own sculpture using any handy material, such as snow, clay, sand, or food (marshmallows?). Please submit a photo of your sculpture based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, and we will feature a selection on the Alumni Relations Facebook Page.
